Jo-Anne Reyneke Discusses Her Character’s Contribution To Telenovela The Estate
She is part of the all-star cast of SABC 3’s upcoming telenovela, The Estate, taking on the character of Lwandle, who is the wife of kingpin, Solomuzi Phakathwayo.
Her role in the upcoming drama series, The Estate, sees her forming part of the integral cast as the poised and professional Lwandle Phakathwayo. In an interview with JustNje , 17 February 2021, the actress detailed her character’s contribution to the storyline, as well as how impactful the series is expected to be as a whole.
Jo-Anne Reyneke explained that Lwandle’s maturity, aside from her age, is what drew her to the character, as she was enticed by her background story and all that she has had to deal with. She elaborated on the fact that the character will appear as a centerpiece for much of the storyline, as she will have to endure a lot alongside her husband. The actress also spoke about the importance of the themes in The Estate, as she believes that the topic of land expropriation will resonate with South Africans, particularly those who have had to directly deal with it for years.
She stated, “The storyline that we’re telling, during the past eight years has become far more relevant. The issues of land, land claims, and the people whose ancestors were originally there are no longer living on that land, allowing for people who are wealthy to take over. More than that, it’s about the relationships with these people who say they know each other and love each other, but as time goes, you get to see who these people really are, and get to make a decision about whether you will stick by them or leave them.”
