Sindi Dlathu’s Educational Background and Career.
She is South African actress and singer who started her career from a young age. Sindi Dlathu is best known for her television roles as Thandaza in the SABC 2 soap opera Muvhango (1997- 2017), as well as Nomfundo in the SABC 1 drama series, Soul City (2001-2008). The prolific actress also made her mark with feature films, including Sarafina and Hoof of Africa. Asides being an actress, she is also a singer and has collaborated with several notable South African music artists. Sindi Dlathu is currently playing a role of Lindiwe Dikana on The River.
Regarding her educational background, there are no details about the institutions she attended and when she graduated. Although it is already known that her talent and public appearances were nurtured and groomed at a young age. At the age of 11 years, Sindi was already engaged in competitions and making sure she came out on top.
Her first win was at a national miming competition, where she mimed an Aretha Franklin cover of The Beatles song “Let It Be”.
After touring the US with the play in 1989 Sindi Dlathu returned to school after four years of being Mbongeni Ngema’s artist. She completed her matric in 1996 and in 1997 she was in the FNB Vita Award winning Game, where she performed with Mary Twala, Abigail Kubeka and Nomhle Nkonyeni.
Sindi Dlathu was cast as the lead role’s understudy in the stage of Sarafina! playing to packed houses. In the screen version, she worked alongside Whoopi Goldberg and was commissioned as an assistant choreographer to Michael Peters.
At the age of 12 she entered a talent competition, as Shell Road Fame, she did not win, but she reached the finals. Sindi received mentorship from Mahotella Queens, a member of the famed South African Mbhanqanga band.
In 2017 being talented actress that she is, Sindi Dlathu held her first Master Class in Botswana where all aspiring actors were invited to showcase their talent and Sindi Dlathu could give them some guidance. In Muvhango, she was given the role of Thandaza Butheledzi. Being the veteran actress that she is, her role on Muvhango grew over the years from minor character to one of the main characters on the soapie. Her role in the play has also helped her build her fame.
